Hi. I was recently relocated here from Georgia so I am looking for a new dentist. I have porcelain veneers, which my previous dentist kept in excellent shape. What should I know about how my veneers should be cleaned? Thanks – Shelli

Shelli – There are some things you should know about cleaning for your porcelain veneers. Fluoride treatments should be avoided, because the fluoride creates etching in the veneers that will damage them.

Additionally, a power jet should not be used to clean your veneers. Sodium bicarbonate from the power jet destroys the glaze on the veneers. Your veneers will be susceptible to stains, and it will be expensive to fix them.

Find a dentist who places porcelain veneers and knows how to maintain them help them last.
