I have two teeth that need to be extracted. I’ve been to the dentist three times to get the procedure. Each time, he has done six injections and he tried some other numbing stuff, but it’s not working. I am in a lot of pain, waiting for the next appointment. Is there some other numbing agent my dentist doesn’t know about that might work? Thanks – Ted
Ted – When a patient has dental anxiety, the anxiety blocks the novocain, making it impossible for you to get completely numb.
Anti-anxiety medication taken before the dental appointment can help you relax so the numbing agent will work. Depending on the level of your anxiety, nitrous oxide may be enough to relax you. Find a sedation dentist. He or she will talk with you about your anxiety and determine which treatment is best for your case.
